Suggested by Teresa Ciuffoletti, the task for the writing group was to find a picture from a book of paintings or the like, write a line inspired by it, and pass that on to their neighbour. You would then use that line as a starting point for writing of your own. That allowed for two opportunities to go to really interesting imaginative places, which I believe everyone enjoyed doing. A simple yet brilliant idea. Personally, I found it prompted a world that quickly accreted in questions and detail. The possibilities and restrictions of images seem to be great stimulants to the imagination. It was also great fun, as everyone read out their texts, to be shown the pictures that had prompted the start lines.
No dog is an island, but if you have one, and you’re on one, it could certainly help you sniff your way around it. Certainly the pack seemed in fine spirits having been reunited, and having something to hunt down again. It was a pleasure to see them streak up the beach and, shaking themselves dry, bound and dart gleefully about seeking the scent. The hounds were happy; he was happy.
