Duncan Large, you have the day off to read any book you choose anywhere you choose. What do you read and where?
Last week I was at an academic conference of the Society for Renaissance Studies. There were quite a number of Milton scholars there and it reminded me that I never did finish Paradise Lost, and I think that if it's going to be a day then I could probably get a lot further with Paradise Lost than I have done so far.
I have two editions which are quite well annotated, which is why I doubt why I could finish in a day – but I could give it a go!
Where would I read? I think I would certainly read away from my desk. Some years ago I got a hammock for my teenage son. I quite fancy lying in a hammock just in the back garden, reading Paradise Lost. I think that would be fun.
